We proudly celebrate the cultural diversity of our school community and support children to learn about, respect, and understand different cultures in a safe and welcoming environment.
As an integral part of Gilles Street Primary School, the Intensive English Language Program (IELP) supports children who are new to Australia and are learning English. The program is designed for students who were born overseas in a non-English-speaking country and have been in Australia for less than 12 months (or 18 months for Junior Primary students), including children from refugee, migrant, or approved temporary resident backgrounds.
The IELP helps students build strong English skills so they can successfully transition to mainstream classes and feel confident in their new school and community. The program is fully integrated into school life. Students participate in a range of whole-school programs that support their social, academic and well-being development. Most students attend the Intensive English Language Centre for up to 12 months. Progress is regularly monitored, and a structured transition program helps students move smoothly into their local mainstream school.
Interpreters, Bilingual School Support Officers, and Community Liaison Officers are available to support families.
For enrolment and information please contact the IELP Assistant Principal.
