Instrumental Music

Instrumental Music

Gilles Street values the importance of students being given the opportunity to learn an instrument. The school's instrumental program is offered to students in years 3 to 6 over a range of instruments.

Students can express an interest to enrol in the instrumental program at the beginning of each year.

Our lessons are offered by both the Department for Education's Instrumental Music program and Private Providers.

DfE Instrumental Music

The Department for Education offer students from years 3 to 6 free instrumental lessons in group format thorough their Instrumental Music (IM) service. At Gilles Street we are able to offer lessons in both Strings (violin, viola, cello) to students in years 3 to 6 and Acoustic Guitar to students in years 5 and 6.

These lessons are offered free through the IM program and are run as small group lessons. All lessons are 30 minutes in length and run once a week during the school day.

The only fees associated with this program will be the hire of an instrument (if needed) and purchasing learning materials covered an admin fee.

Instrumental Music - Private Music Instructors
Private Music Instructors (PMI) are individuals/small businesses who run lessons within our school. They offer instrumental tuition to families for a fee. Students are also charged an admin fee to help cover costs for printing and purchasing learning materials.

Our PMIs currently offer guitar, drums and keyboard lessons to students in years 3 to 6.

These lessons are offered as either paired or small group lessons depending on the type of instrument and teacher availability.
Fee structures are set at the beginning of each school year by our PMIs.

All lessons are 30 minutes in length and run once a week during the school day.

All PMIs are practising professional musicians who have the appropriate qualifications to work with children and young people.

If your child is interested in learning an instrument through the school, please contact the front office for more information.
